(CANCELED) Mechanicals - A practical workshop for mid-ride bike repair
These courses are canceled for the time being. More will be added when group gatherings become safe again. Thankyou!
At Switchback, we know that in order to be ready to go on an adventure, we have to practice our skills in a realistic setting. We also know that we all learn skills more effectively when we are partaking in a fun and social bike ride!
This course will do both of those things while preparing you to handle the most common mechanical issues that can come up while you are out on a bike ride. We not only guarantee that you'll leave this course feeling more confident in taking your bike out for a ride, but we guarantee that you'll have fun while you're doing it.
The ride will depart from Switchback and take a 5-mile loop through the Northeast end of town. During the ride, the group will stop in some scenic spots to fix a few "unforeseen mechanical issues". Everyone will get a chance to practice repairs on their own bike, and don’t worry… These exercises are for practice purposes and no one’s two-wheeled steeds will take any physical damage in the making of this course.
While you are performing these repair exercises on your own bike, Sam and Alan from Switchback will be right by your side to help you get your bike back on its two wheels.
You will learn and practice the following:
- Removing and reinstalling front and rear wheels
- Flat prevention tips and tube changing - At the end of the course, you will have changed both your front and rear tube on your bike!
- Re-installing a dropped chain
- A safety check to do before a ride or after a crash
Your course price includes:
- Spare tubes (everyone will leave with a tube that fits their ride)
- Practice tire levers and miscellaneous tools
- Use of both C02 tire inflators and hand pumps (so you can experiment with both)
After the ride, we will head to Creston brewery for an optional drink or meal to celebrate our new skills! (The course itself will end at 6:00. Brewery time is additional, drinks and food are not included in the course cost)
To reserve your space, pay above and we will reach out with some welcome info shortly! Have questions before you sign up? Contact email@example.com and tell him what's on your mind.
This course has a minimum guest requirement of five people. If the minimum is not met, your payment will be refunded or transferred. Ages 18+ are welcome.
Bikes must be in functioning condition before this ride, if you are unsure if your bike is ready, please call Switchback and schedule an assessment or tune-up before the week of the ride. We provide all of the tools and supplies, but you are welcome to bring your own tools if you'd like to practice with them. Tubeless set up wheels are not recommended as we will be installing new tubes in everyone's wheel.
