Michigan's N. Manitou island offers a wilderness area that is not only filled with gorgeous protected green space, but also with rich history! Join us as we explore hidden spots, create tasty back country meals, and enjoy eachothers company in the midst of the beautiful North Manitou Island.
Hikers of all levels are welcome for this course. Our average daily mileage will be about 7 miles. During the course we will be covering topics ranging from backpacking foundations, all the way through some slightly more advanced topics such as gourmet cooking and "leave no trace".
The Gist:We will hike approximately 24 miles in four days on the island. Includes all trail food, the ferry reservation, and teaching from two trained leaders! Transportation to Leland is not included, but we will help arrange carpooling from Grand Rapids. Gear rental is available, see details below! Registration is open until June 2nd.

July 12th: Shakedown at Switchback at 3pm.
July 16th: Assemble at Switchback at 8 am to carpool to Leland. In the afternoon we will take the ferry to N. Manitou. After landing, we will hike a few miles to our first site.
July 17th-18th: We will spend each day hiking to a new spot where we can swim, relax, eat, and enjoy each others company.
July 19th: This will be our last morning on the island before we board the ferry and head back to the mainland for a celebratory dinner. Estimated return to Grand Rapids: 5pm.
